Features of Nikkiso CFRP Business
| Advanced technology and analysis techniques | With our advanced technology —time-tested in the aerospace industry —we have accumulated much data allowing us to offer optimal designs for specification requirements that are unique to each client. Product and mold modeling are made using 3D CAD (computer-aided design) equipment, and shapes are tested using finite element method (FEM) analysis. We use the latest programs for design and analysis, including NASTRAN/PATRAN, FiberSIM, and CATIA. |
|---|---|
| Molding techniques | Nikkiso has also been working on introducing CFRP for components with more complicated shapes. Our original technology has made it possible to produce lighter components with complicated shapes while maintaining a high level of strength. We also offer a variety of manufacturing methods suited to product applications. |
| Production facilities | Nikkiso has the latest production facilities including large autoclaves, five-axis-controlled NC machines, prepreg cutters, laser-based projection systems, and RTM devices. We are also working hard to develop new molding technologies. |
| Evaluation equipment | Nikkiso has a wide range of evaluation and analysis equipment for testing composite materials, including strength testers (for static strength and fatigue), environmental testing devices (vibration and thermal cycle), and devices for non-destructive inspections. We also offer chemical analysis, and we design and evaluate testing devices for special-purpose products. |
| Quality control system | Nikkiso has a thorough quality control system, backed by quality system approvals granted by major aircraft manufacturers, in addition to AS 9100 certification. Our highly advanced quality control system covers the entire process from the design stage through material receipt to product delivery. We also have an established range of the latest product testing equipment, including ultrasonic inspection equipment (A- and C-scans), gantry 3D measuring devices, and CMM. As well, we have received NADCAP (Composite and NDT) and ISO 14000 certifications. |
| Research and development | For the development of new applications and molding techniques, Nikkiso is constantly working with novel technology. In addition to CFRP products, we are developing new materials, allowing us to design applications that make the most of a material’s features. |
Main Product Lines
Aircraft components — thrust reverser cascades

We began producing our first composite cascades for the PWJT9D (presently PW 4000) in 1983. This led to metal cascades being gradually replaced by Nikkiso's CFRP products for the V2500, RB211, and other models.
Nikkiso's CFRP cascades have since become the de facto standard, and are now used in the first design stage and are installed on aircraft including the Boeing B777 and B737, and the Airbus A340-500/600 and A380.
At the end of your next flight, when you hear the engine sound become louder upon landing, take a look out of the window. You can see the cowl of the engine open, and inside you will see the Nikkiso cascade.
Aircraft components — ailerons for small planes

Ailerons are on the ends of the main wing of aircraft and are used for attitude control during flight. Based on our experiences in the aerospace industry, we have been manufacturing these products under our strict quality control system.
Satellite components — tubes

Tubes for satellite structures are made of high-modulus carbon fibers. Our tubes are manufactured by materials which are selected to endure the harsh space environment (i.e. high vacuum state, thermal change).
Satellite components — panels

Panels for a satellite structures. Under the rigorous quality control system, Nikkiso’s satellite panels have cleared the customer’s demands of dimensional accuracy and weight requirements.
